Sprawling, epic, and vividly evocative, Tatsu is a grandiose exploration of melodic development. Beginning slowly and heavily, the trumpet makes the first statement of the melody before the ensemble takes over in a colorful wash of sound. Moving into an aggressive and heroic double time development of melodic fragments, before dropping down for the solos. Switching to 3/4 for the trombone solo, before revving up into a glorious and shimmering restatement of the melody in soaring trumpet lines. This composition is a great concert centerpiece and a captivating closer.
